There was an article in The Times on Monday, purporting to reveal the perfect time to send a work email if you want to get it opened.

Turns out the best time to send an internal work email is between 3pm and 6pm on a Sunday afternoon, with a 94% average open rate during that period.

(The article did explain that there’s a bit of a moral dilemma in these findings, since your co-workers may well not want an email at the weekend, but that’s another story for another day.)

From a marketing perspective, I’ve seen plenty of these sorts of findings over the years:

“The perfect time to send an email (AND the foolproof subject line no one can ignore)”

“The ideal Facebook Ad image that gets people clicking in their droves”

“The one split test you simply MUST be running”

The list goes on, but here’s the point:

For most business owners, these minute details are totally irrelevant, since they’re not doing enough marketing for the minutiae to matter.

Sure, there might be a good time to send an email for your audience, but just getting an email out of the door is the first place to start.

Yes, there might be ways to make your Facebook Ads more appealing, but the first step is getting something live, seeing what happens and refining from there.

Imperfect activity always trumps perfect inactivity.

You’ll know whether you’re being active enough, and if you’re not, here’s your nudge to do something about it.
