Consumers are fickle - how are you making sure it's your voice they hear above the noise?

My husband Seb has been a lifelong Spurs supporter – 37 years and counting.

Listening to him recounting the way some dude scored back in the 90s has bored me to tears on numerous occasions, and while raising three small children in the middle of Birmingham means his opportunities to watch Tottenham are few and far between, Seb’s still managed to get to a handful of games over the last few years.

Seb’s mate Dan, a Birmingham City fan, recently invited him to join him at the Blues Bolton midweek game, and despite not particularly enjoying his last visit to St Andrew’s, Seb duly obliged because, well, he loves football.

So imagine my surprise when I get the following WhatsApp message from my beloved halfway through the evening: “I’m now a Blues fan. And so are you, and the children. Till we die.”

Sorry, Spurs.

Turns out the stadium had been revamped, he could get a pint for a fiver, and the Blues beat Bolton 2-0.

And now there’s an invite to a Blues game sitting in our shared calendar – guess I really will be going to watch them soon.

Who knows how long Seb’s shift of allegiance will last, but it’s a little demonstration of something we’re all up against in business:
