I’ve always loved Halloween.
My favourite movie is Scream – not just my favourite scary movie, my all-time favourite.
Conveniently, my 8-month-old Bailey was the perfect excuse to head off to a farm for a spot of pumpkin picking with the family.
Why did we bother?
Well, it won’t surprise you to know that it wasn’t about procuring a pumpkin; after all, we could simply pick a couple of from the local Asda if we wanted.
Instead, it’s all about experience.
And other than the pumpkin picking itself, the farm made sure there were plenty of ways to keep people there.
There were mazes and spooky trails they were upselling, there were food stalls and drink stands AND there was a coffee shop/café to refuel and prolong the day.
Because the reality is that if you turned up, picked the pumpkins and left, you’d be gone in a flash.
But with bouncy castles, story times, characters, slides and extra activities, you can keep people there happily spending for longer.
It’s a good lesson that whatever you’re selling, giving people the opportunity to spend more if they want to and advertising that fact can result in more sales without having to generate new customers.
And importantly, Bailey had a blast, as you can see from his cheeky smile below
(yes, we did buy him a pumpkin outfit for the occasion).
