It’s not been a “good news” few months really.  Hell, it’s hard to think of a “good news” story in the whole of 2025.

Hardly surprising, given that good news doesn’t sell papers or generate clicks.

History is littered with examples of businesses that quit when the going got tough, but equally, turbulence in the market has also birthed some of the biggest businesses on the planet, from Kellogg’s, to Uber, to WhatsApp.

You can’t control what the government does, but you CAN choose how you respond, and whether you allow them to dictate your future, or whether you take matters into your own hands.

Here’s the truth: when times are tough, marketing isn’t optional.

Now’s not the time to “wait it out”.  It’s the time to get focused. 

Stop dabbling, start deciding.

Maybe you’ve done bits in the past – the odd ad, the occasional email.  But in tougher times, the scattergun stuff won’t cut it. 

When money’s tighter and decisions take longer, it’s not the best product that wins.  It’s the best marketed one.

The doers – agencies, local companies, technicians

Hands up who’s had a bad experience with an agency?  Most business owners in most rooms.

An agency will do whatever you want: build you a website, flick on some Google Ads, design you a brochure; if you’re looking for work to be done, an agency will definitely be able to help.

Trouble is, most of that activity is not strategic.  They’re just selling you things, and then creating them.

And it’s no surprise that most agencies don’t have the best track record when it comes to retention – for the most part, they just don’t deliver the results required, leading business owners like you to hop around, trying to find one that’ll work, and constantly getting disappointed.
